Chimney repair on Day Island

Day Island is a few hundred homes on a sand spit with water on every side, and its chimneys live in full marine conditions: salt air around the clock, wind off the Narrows, and humidity that never really leaves. Masonry and metal both age faster here, and the maintenance calendar should run ahead of the mainland's, not behind it.

Salt and metal

The first casualties on island chimneys are the metal parts. Galvanized caps and chase covers rust through years early, flashing corrodes at the laps, and damper hardware seizes. Everything we install on the island is stainless, and existing metal gets a corrosion check as part of any visit, because replacing a cap on schedule is cheap compared to drying out a flue that lost its cap in October.

Working a tight island

The single bridge, narrow lanes, and close-set homes shape how work gets staged: smaller equipment, tighter drop-cloth discipline, and scheduling that respects the neighbors sharing the lane. Rebuild and reline material gets staged in one trip. None of that changes the price of the masonry work. It changes whether the job runs smoothly, and on Day Island that is worth planning for.
